4.5 Steps Forward; 3.5 Steps Back
I'm overdue in writing this week's update - what can I say, it's been a busy week!
When we last saw our heroine, she was victoriously stepping off the scale, claiming a 4.5 lb loss for the week.
Fast forward exactly a week (and two hours), and she was stepping off the scale again, Eeyore-esque, with a 3.5 lb gain.
So, the theme so far for December?
"You've won the battle but not the war."
Yep, I'm still down a pound overall from where I was two weeks ago. I'm thrilled that i didn't regain the whole initial loss. I also KINDA knew I was kidding myself with that first week loss -- I'd had a lot of wine the night before, and the night before THAT, skipped dinner. Not the most accurate picture of weekly living.
And then for the second week, I had dinner plans on both Thursday and Friday night (one involving pizza and beer; the other involving pasta and wine), and woke up Saturday with a "oh, forget it" attitude about Weight Watchers.
I'd already had a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal when the text came in from Gabby, wondering how my WI went (she couldn't attend, as was out of town).
Ugh. Suddenly, at 9 AM, I found myself changing out of my robe and into clothes, and getting in my cold car to make the journey to Weight Watchers, where I KNEW I'd regain some of the weight (probably would have already, and then I had coffee and cereal and water -- whereas I usually weigh in on a very empty stomach!).
Damn you, Gabby.
(Thank you, Gabby).
But I went. And I faced the music. And then I went to buy healthy groceries for the week ahead. And then, this week, I've had to stop a few times and think, "Um, is this a good idea?" when thinking about this weekend's meeting.
I've eaten breakfast from home and brought my lunch every day this week. I've had some social challenges, namely a happy hour on Tuesday night, and another one tonight (both work related), but have "reigned it in" pretty well in terms of unnecessary calories. I've remembered how to build little treats into my day so that I don't feel deprived.
AND, most notable, The Hubs and I made a pretty big purchase last night -- a new treadmill! It's fancy! And I cannot wait to get it. It's being delivered / set up on 1/2/12... the perfect way to start off those new year's resolutions. Frankly, getting to Lifetime hasn't been working for either of us (which is dumb, because now that I'm moved into his house, it's like 1 mile away). I am super frustrated trying to figure out a routine, and how to fit it all in without losing my mind. I know it is possible in general but right now it is not possible for ME. Not if I want a good nights sleep + long work day + to be able to make dinner + be able to spend some actual time relaxing together before going to bed at night. So we'll be dropping Lifetime, which means that in about a year, the treadmill (plus delivery, tax, service plan, and weight bench) will have paid for itself. We got a really great deal on it, despite not waiting until after the new year to shop.
With this particular model, I'm super excited about some of the technology features it offers -- it integrates with iFIT technology, for custom workout and nutrition plans, and it even has a built-in slot to rest my laptop, so I can easily watch DVDs or stream TV or even WORK if I'm walking slow.
We have the perfect room for it in the basement, and I absolutely cannot wait to have it in my house. and I am absolutely thankful to my wonderful husband for letting us buy this. :-)
Off and running (soon, on my new treadmill!),

IMHO, No home should be considered complete without a TM. But, alas, why the basement? I've got a bike dead center of my family room. No, it's not pretty, but, it gets the job done.
